Her role as a bookkeeper showcased her dedication to her family’s ventures.

She actively participated in organizations like the Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, Willits Fire Auxiliary, St. Anthony’s Ladies Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Annabell’s life was punctuated with adventures, including over 30 trips to Alaska to visit family and witness the Iditarod sled dog race in Nome. Her interests ranged from fishing to knitting, and her proficiency in cooking led to the creation of her renowned snickerdoodles. A skilled gardener, she took pride in maintaining the home on Mendocino Avenue that she and her husband, Duane, built in 1950.

Annabell’s Snickerdoodles

Mix Thoroughly 

1 c shortening

1 c margarine 

3 c sugar 

4 eggs

Sift together and stir in 5 1/2 c flour 

4 tsp cream of tartar 

2 tsp soda 

1/2 tsp salt 

Roll (softly) into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of 6 tsp sugar and 6 tsp cinnamon. Place 2” apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes or 400 F for 6-8 until lightly brown, but still soft. 

Secret is: keep dough fluffy!
